It’s September 25th, 8:00 p.m. in NYC, USA and Metal Blade’s 30th Anniversary Show is about to begin at Santo’s Party House. It’s September 26th, 3:00 a.m. in Athens, Greece and I’m sitting in front of my computer waiting for the live streaming of the show to begin. I’m excited but at the same time afraid that the streaming will not be available outside the US. Fortunately about 20 minutes later I find myself “inside” Santo’s Party House. Therefore I would really like to thank Metal Blade Records for this opportunity. I managed to “attend” an AILD show for the first time ever! I really enjoyed the show. I’m really grateful for this experience! However I was taken aback by the content of the chat that was taking place on the page of the live streaming. There were definitely some very nice and supporting comments about AILD but there were also some racist and sexist comments. There was too much foul language. And maybe some people were just joking but there should always be a limit I guess. There were also some negative comments about the band and about religion. I believe that freedom of speech is very important given the fact that people have died because of the lack of it. Nonetheless respect and tolerance towards others people’s beliefs is equally important. So in that case my physical distance from Santo’s Party House meant darkness. For the shadows of the true AILD fans in Santo’s Party House would have offered me security. All in all I never wanted to sound judgmental. I just wanted to express my partial disappointment as a way of overcoming it. AILD are not just another metal band. They are special in many respects and their fans should also be special. We are special so let’s all enjoy the gift of AILD’s music in peace. Headbanging is allowed though. Thank you.
